Excavation almost complete for Rosenthal Avenue car park
Bulk excavation is almost complete at the Lane Cove Rosenthal Avenue car park.
“Excavations of this size are few and far between and we thank the community for its patience as we carried out the work,” Chief Executive Officer Neil Harding said.
The deepest part of the excavation is the equivalent of five storeys in height and it has taken around 45,400 working hours to get to this point.
“More than 180,000 tonnes of material has been removed from the site to date and there are still around 30,000 tonnes to go,” he said.
“The team (several members pictured on site) has installed more than 350 rock anchors and used 3000 square metres of shotcrete to date and have a head start on the trees and vegetation planned for the new parkland, with more than 100 trees currently growing off site.”
The $75 million project involves creating an additional 500 underground car spaces and a vibrant new public community space replacing the existing car park.
“We know how important this project is to the community and the council and we will continue to keep stakeholders informed as the project progresses,” Mr Harding said.
