Gold Coast Cultural Precinct

The City of Gold Coast appointed ADCO for the Gold Coast Cultural Precinct project with Stage 1 completed in time for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™.

ADCO managed the design phase with international architects, ARM Architecture and Topotek1, who applied their 2013 international winning concept to a site-wide Master Plan.

The new community facility includes a Versatile Outdoor Space (VOS) – a  stage and event platform in a garden-style amphitheatre, catering for audiences of 5,000, and a wide range of civic events and performances.

Within the VOS, performance stage has full lighting and sound installations behind the retractable amphitheatre wall, allowing the multi-functional space to be used also as a conference/event room. Included within the amphitheatre structure is a catering kitchen and dressing rooms.

Additional works included extensive landscaping, seating, toilet amenities, and pedestrian and cycle bridges.

During the concept design phase, the design of the building was changed to a concrete framed structure building that will be covered with soil which is retained by walls at the front and back of the building. This has created an excellent insulation layer over the building and has dramatically improved the thermal qualities of the building. This has reduced the amount of cooling the building requires and has vastly reduced the expected energy consumption.
