Cairns, QLD Australian Federal Police, Cairns Office

Following ADCO’s successful delivery of the Cairns AFP office development, ADCO delivered the Australian ADCO delivered the Cairns Australian Federal Police (AFP) building in the Cairns Airport precinct, adjacent to the southern end of the runway.

Totalling 2,920m² of GFA over two levels, the building provides high-class office facilities as well as holding cells and interview rooms.

The facility was designed and built to assist AFP’s operations in Far North Queensland and includes specialised base building components including high-level security systems and intrusion-resistant building materials.

As well as the challenges presented by specific and stringent AFP requirements, the site’s location in the airport required careful planning and delivery methods.

Due to its proximity to the runway there were restrictions on the use of cranes which could intrude on the air space. To overcome this, ADCO was required to complete the piled foundations and the installation of the concrete panel walls after hours when there was no air traffic.
