Brisbane Metro Depot

The Brisbane Metro Depot at Rochedale is one of the largest electric bus depots in Australia, and it now powers Brisbane Metro services for Brisbane City Council. Located on School Road with a direct connection to the South East Busway, the 10-hectare end-of-route facility maintains and operates the initial fleet of 60 battery-electric, bi-articulated metro vehicles, with capacity to grow alongside future service requirements.

The depot provides stabling and maintenance facilities for the full fleet, supported by 65 chargers: five end-of-route Grid-eMotion flash chargers that recharge a metro in under six minutes, and 60 CCS2 plug-in chargers with their supporting infrastructure. Extensive workshop facilities handle both routine maintenance and body repairs. Driver amenities, administration offices and on-site parking support the day-to-day running of the depot and fleet operations.

Sustainability is built into the design. More than 2,300 solar panels deliver 1 MW of generation, producing clean energy equivalent to the annual use of 280 homes. The depot is targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating, with rainwater harvesting and recycled water used for vehicle washing.

Delivering the project involved more than 400,000 hours of work by ADCO’s people and trade partners across 25 design packages. Works included 20,000 m of in-ground conduit reticulation, 25 km of cabling, 3,500 m of RCP stormwater pipework, 36,000 m² of MRTS rigid concrete pavement (an area equivalent to three football fields), 2,000 m³ of structural concrete and more than 500 tonnes of structural steel. Bulk earthworks removed material equivalent to filling 60 Olympic swimming pools.

The project won the Commercial / Industrial Building over $50 million award at the 2025 Master Builders Queensland Brisbane Housing & Construction Awards.
