Wantirna South, VIC State Basketball Centre
ADCO was thrilled to be the Builder of Choice for the $132 million project, including $27 million in funding from Knox City Council, designed to meet the growing popularity and participation of basketball and gymnastics, and a facility to meet all state and national basketball needs.
Located in the Knox Regional Sports Park, Wantirna South, the State Basketball Centre includes 12 new indoor basketball courts adding to the existing 6 courts; comprehensive training facilities for high performance basketball including WNBL and NBL teams; new gymnastics facilities; new administration facilities to support sports organisations and clubs; and a town square space and cafe.
We are very proud to have worked with Development Victoria to achieve over 90% of the total contract value being local content, over 8% (30,000 hours) of labour hours for trainees, cadets and apprentices and engaged over 80 women on the project across various management and trade roles.
The existing State Basketball Centre remained operational throughout the construction works.
ADCO worked collaboratively with the client, our consultants and trade partners to successfully deliver one of the most impressive sporting facilities and largest basketball centres in Australia.
The project won the 2025 Master Builder Victoria’s Excellence in Social Procurement Award, recognising the team’s incredible outcomes, including 44 Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people employed; over $4.6 million spent with First Nations businesses (target $2.2M); 237 jobs created; 93 women on site over the course of the project; 92.45% local content (target 91.2%) achieved; 1,250 tonnes of locally sourced steel (approx. $13M) procured and exceeding the Victorian Government’s 10% Major Project Skills Guarantee target, achieving 11.35%.
