WACA Ground Improvement Project

East Perth, WA WACA Ground Improvement Project

ADCO was proud to be the Builder of Choice for the transformation of the iconic WACA Ground, which, through this redevelopment, is now a 10,000‑seat, multi‑sport and community facility forming part of the broader East Perth precinct revitalisation.

Highlights of the redevelopment include a community resort‑style pool, public health and fitness facility, high‑performance cricket centre, museum, café, and event and function facilities, creating a year‑round destination for both elite sport and the wider community. The redevelopment was characterised by a high level of complexity, requiring coordination of multiple stakeholders within a high-profile, internationally recognised venue, while maintaining operations in a semi‑live environment.

Significant technical challenges were encountered across the site, including contaminated soil, groundwater, ground gas, unstable ground conditions, deleterious materials, buried rubbish, and asbestos, all of which required careful management under strict environmental controls, including continuous 24-hour dewatering to manage groundwater and maintain safe, stable excavation conditions. The scale of construction was extensive, incorporating over 600 CFA piles and more than 300 precast panels, alongside specialised elements such as internationally imported slides and Aquaplay equipment.

The redevelopment delivers significant long-term benefits, ensuring the WACA Ground continues to prosper and service the needs of the cricket community and the wider Western Australian community into the future, reinforcing its role as a vibrant, inclusive, and activated precinct.
